Learning to Count: Number Songs

As previously discussed, we love music. I’ve been singing songs to Pip since she was born and now she sings along! In fact, we’ve developed a bit of an odd habit of singing normal conversations.

Songs can be a great learning tool too, for example when learning to count. Here are a few of our favourite counting songs. I won’t write out all of the lyrics, since I’m sure after one verse, you’ll get the idea!

Five Little Ducks

Five Little Ducks went swimming one day
Over the hills and far away
Mummy Duck said ‘Quack, quack!’
But only four little ducks came back

Five currant buns

Five currant buns in the baker’s shop
Round and fat with a cherry on the top
Along came Pip with a pound one day
She bought a currant bun and took it away

Five Little Speckled Frogs

Five little speckled frogs sat on a speckled log
Eating some most delicious grubs. Yum yum!
One jumped into the pool, where it was nice and cool
Then there were four speckled frogs. Glub glub!

I love these little songs and so does Pip. We picked them up over the course of attending different classes and playgroups. Even though she’s been about to count for years now, she still likes singing them.

Do you know anymore number songs? What are your favourites?
